Blast at northeast Ohio oil and gas well site kills one

18 July 2012

Firefighters say one person was killed in an explosion at an oil and gas well site at Bolivar in northeast Ohio, 65 miles south of Cleveland. The victim, believed to be a 19-year-old male, was painting at the well site. The explosion blew the oil holding tank high into the air and ignited grass and trees for about 100 yards in all directions.

The investigation is being handled by the state Fire Marshal’s Office, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Oil and Gas Division, as well as the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Department.
Published reports indicate the well is owned by MKE Producing, a private investment group.
