One killed in Colorado gas explosion

17 August 2012

One worker was killed and three injured in a natural gas explosion at an Encana Corp-owned well
near Fort Lupton, Colorado. Weld County Sheriff spokesman Tim Schwartz said the explosion appeared to have been related to a pressure issue at the well, and that there was no fire.

Schwartz said he expected the accident would be investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Encana is alco investigating the incident.

Encana spokesman Doug Hock said a new well was being drilled and a high pressure release of gas occurred during the process of completing that work. The pad is used for directional drilling for oil and gas
