OPITO signs Petronas accreditation deal

Oil and gas industry skills and safety body OPITO has signed an agreement with Malaysia’s national oil company Petronas to assess and accredit selected health, safety and environment and technical training programmes offered by Institut Teknologi Petroleum Petronas (INSTEP) and Petronas Group Health, Safety and Environment Division (GHSED).

The scope of the agreement also includes strategic competency development via learning visits, staff attachments, student internships and network access. It was signed by Petronas viice president of human resource management Puan Raiha Azni Abdul Rahman and OPITO’s Group chief executive David Doig.
“The groundbreaking work with Petronas is not only a first in Asia, it marks another significant achievement for OPITO as we continue to grow our international reach,” said Mr Doig.
“Petronas is creating a regional hub of excellence in learning and safety training. Through the INSTEP training facility it is establishing a world class centre for the oil and gas industry where innovation and quality will be at the core of everything it does.
“The training programmes will deliver world class safety and technical skills and globally recognised certification. This will not only help the Malaysian oil and gas industry grow and prosper it will also signal to the global industry that Petronas is leading the industry in skills development of its people.”
Puan Raiha Azni said: “With OPITO’s assessment on the selected programmes under INSTEP and Petronas GHSED, we can set the training standards and ensure adoption of the best practices.”
