Iran mine collapse and explosion kills eight

According to the official IRNA news agency, eight miners were killed on December 18 in a coal mine at Parvadeh Tabas, 555 kilometres southeast of Tehran. Local officials said that a tunnel in the mine collapsed which led to an accumulation of gas, after which there was an explosion.
On December 20, officials confirmed that eight bodies had been recovered from the mine. Some 40 work at the mine, but IRNA did not say whether the other miners were accounted for.
