National Skills Academy expands range of Process Safety courses

15 January 2013

On the back of the successful Process Safety Leadership for Senior Executives course, the second course in the Process Safety Management portfolio was launched in the last quarter of 2012.

Process Safety Management Foundations is a two day course designed to support those individuals responsible for the day to day management of process safety, and is now being delivered UK wide. To date five courses have been delivered (all led by Process Industry Consulting), with both closed and open courses being highly commended by those who have attended.

NSA has also launched a Petroleum Safety Training course for contractors working at top tier COMAH Petroleum sites such as refineries, bulk storage facilities, terminals and jetties. The course was developed using the Petroleum Safety training standard developed by Cogent in response to a request from the Cogent Downstream Advisory Council (DAC) which perceived a training gap in this area.

Reynolds Training Services, an Academy-accredited training provider developed the course which was piloted across the UK at four events and has been signed off by the DAC whose membership includes the UK Petroleum Industry Association (UKPIA). The course is designed to supplement generic safety training and provide contractors with a good understanding of the hazards or refineries and terminal sites, and knowledge of safety and safe systems of work on these sites. Feedback from attendees at the showcase events was extremely positive and resulted in the roll out of the course with a pilot scheme at the Essar Refinery in Ellesmere Port.

Further courses will be rolled out across the UK in early 2013.
