UAE factory blast kills two, injures four

18 April 2013

Two workers were killed and four were injured in a blast at a brick factory in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, on April 16. Brigadier Mohammad Al Zaabi, Director General of Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence, told Gulf News that two workers were killed in the explosion, which happened at around 10.05pm in the factory in the Gheil area.

Police did not reveal what caused the explosion saying that the incident was under investigation. The blast was followed by a fire in the factory.

Civil defence team and police evacuated the factory and extinguished the fire. Four workers sustained first and second degree burns and are being treated at Obaidullah Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah.

The bodies of the victims have also been moved to the hospital while the police have taken into custody a few people for questioning. “The blast site has been cordoned off while the police and forensic experts are investigating the case,” said Brigadier Al Zaabi.
