26 April 2013
On April 25, the UK Health and Safety Executive received an award from the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) for its contribution to offshore process safety. IChemE’s Aberdeen members made the award in recognition of HSE Offshore Division’s dedicated implementation of an effective safety regime which has stood the test of time for more than 20 years.

HSE Chair Judith Hackitt accepting IChemE award on behalf of HSE
Accepting the awardon behalf of the organisation, HSE chair Judith Hackitt, a Chartered Chemical Engineer herself, said: "It gives me a great sense of pride in the outstanding work which HSE's staff continue to do in such an important area. What an endorsement for HSE's approach to offshore regulation - how many other regulators have been awarded for their work by those who they regulate?"
Ms Hackitt, who is the incoming president of IchemE, was speaking at the event to urge industry to remember the lessons from past tragedies and pass them on to future generations of engineers and managers.
She also highlighted the creation of HSE’s new Energy Division, which is to strengthen offshore regulation further with over three quarters of staff now working on offshore safety.
