Nokia Siemens factory incidents in Portugal leave three seriously injured

06 October 2014

According to local news sources an explosion at the Nokia Siemens Networks factory at Alfragide in the western suburbs of Lisbon on October 3 seriously injured two people. One of those involved in the explosion has been left with 50%-60% burns to his body while the second man received burns to his airways, according to a local fire department spokesman.

Both men were stabilised on site by emergency services and then transported to hospital for further treatment.

It is believed that the men were working to repair a transformer which the day before had been involved in the electrocution of another worker at the factory. That worker is also seriously injured and was transported by helicopter to a specialist hospital in Porto.

According to the fire department spokesman, the workers are employees of a maintenance company that subcontracts for Nokia.
