Marechal Australia moves to new premises to meet the future growth needs of the business

01 July 2015

MARECHAL ELECTRIC GROUP (MEG) has a total commitment to safety, quality, reliability and innovation that began more than 60 years ago when the first MARECHAL® DECONTACTOR™ was manufactured in Normandy in France. For over 30 years MARECHAL ELECTRIC’s products were sold in Australia and New Zealand only via agents.

In 2012, the company began trading in its own right from rented premises in Melbourne. In 2014 with the acquisition by MEG of TECHNOR Italsmea, a specialized manufacturer of explosion-proof and flame-proof products, MARECHAL AUSTRALIA had outgrown its original premises. In April 2015, MARECHAL moved to much larger, custom-designed premises, which the company has built in Hallam Victoria, to meet the future growth needs of business.

In April 2015, MARECHAL ELECTRIC GROUP (MEG) moved its Australian and New Zealand headquarters to new, custom-built premises at 20A Technology Circuit, Hallam, Victoria 3803. In addition to customer service, technical and sales support, order processing, design, engineering, assembly, testing and logistics associated with MARECHAL®’s DECONTACTOR™ and related products business, the new headquarters also house the TECHNOR® Italsmea business unit, which joined the Group in 2014. TECHNOR® was founded in 1967 and today is a leader in the design and manufacture of explosion and flame-proof products and accessories for potentially explosive atmospheres in a wide range of industries.

MARECHAL ELECTRIC GROUP - Over 60 years of expertise and know-how

Sixty three years ago this year the first plug and socket with an integral load-break isolating switch, known as the MARECHAL® DECONTACTOR™, was manufactured  in France by MEG, paving the way for the ongoing development of a complete range of these safe and reliable electrical connections. Maher Kharoufeh, Managing Director, MARECHAL Australia and New Zealand said, “The addition of the TECHNOR® business to MEG and the move to our own premises in Australia underline the commitment of the Group to invest in Australia for the long term.”

Today the Group’s MARECHAL® DECONTACTOR™ and TECHNOR® products are used in a wide range of industries around the world, including general manufacturing and process industries, and mining and quarrying. MARECHAL®’s IECEx certified DECONTACTOR™ and TECHNOR® products are designed for use in potentially hazardous areas in industries such as the oil and gas industry, where there is a possible risk of explosion. Maher Kharoufeh said, “Our products are certified and comply in full with the requirements and standards of the many different markets in which the Group operates, allowing MEG to position itself as a leading supplier to most types of industrial activity throughout the world.”

TECHNOR® is a leader in the design, and manufacture of lighting, control stations, junction boxes, flameproof enclosures, earthing systems, visual signals, cable glands and fittings and flameproof electrical panels for use in potentially explosives atmospheres. It has a high level of expertise in developing and designing Ex equipment for most applications. These include offshore oil and gas installations, refineries, chemical and petrochemical plants, ships and the food industry as well as other industries in which explosive dusts might represent a hazard, such as in the manufacture of foodstuffs, in grain silos and in the textile industry.

TECHNOR® products enable safe transport and application of electric signals and power in hazardous areas. The core business is in the electrical, instrumentation and electronics segments of the market.

All equipment for use in explosive atmospheres must satisfy the requirements of international and national regulations (e.g. IECEx in Australia) and the components of each individual system are certified in accordance with specific Ex certification requirements.

TECHNOR®’s product range and its geographic locations complement those of MEG, providing significant product and distribution synergies.

Maher Kharoufeh said, “The addition of the TECHNOR® business enables the Group to provide total solutions for potentially hazardous areas in oil and gas and other industries opening up exciting new growth prospects.”

MEG’s production sites, its commercial subsidiaries, reliable and proven products, and committed workforce have enabled MEG to build close relationships with its customers. More than a third of the staffs are members of MEG Sales Teams dedicated to supporting MEG’s customers with their projects. The Group has a total of 10 production sites spread across France, Germany, Italy, Singapore, South Africa, Australia and the United States. MEG has a direct, day-to-day commercial presence in more than 20 countries and a network of subsidiaries and exclusive partnerships all around the world.

5% of MEG’s annual turnover is re-invested in R&D each year as part of the Group’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement. The ploughing back of 5% of turnover into R&D each year enables MEG to conceptualize, design, and develop new products as well as adapting its existing products to suit the needs of its customers around the globe. The product portfolio reflects the needs and priorities of MEG’s customers and provides them with a combination of safety, quality and reliability, in addition to a broad package of technical solutions which comply with different market requirements and regulations.

MEG’s R&D strategy revolves around four main approaches.

Safety and reliability of the products

First and foremost MEG’s highest priority is the safety of the individuals in the customers’ facilities and during their use and maintenance of equipment incorporating MEG’s products. The MARECHAL design goes hand-in-hand with sustainability and performance over the long-term.

Optimizing product features and modular design

MEG offers its customers the opportunity to customize the features and modular assembly options of its products. For larger projects, dedicated technical support is available from MARECHAL® to assist the customer with the project and provide a comprehensive and effective solution.

Enriching partnership development with customers

MEG participates in turnkey projects and the close partnerships developed with all participants enable MEG to grow and continuously develop its product portfolio. MEG is therefore constantly improving the performances and features of MEG products to exceed customers’ expectations.
