UK approves world’s largest offshore windfarm in North Sea 18 February 2015

On February 17 the UK government approved a 2,400 megawatt (MW) capacity wind generation project in the British sector of the North Sea. The 400-turbine Dogger Bank Creyke Beck project, being developed by the Forewind consortium, will cover 430 sq miles and is expected to generate enough electricity to power nearly 2m homes and support 900 full-time jobs....

UK competition watchdog to investigate UK’s Big Six energy companies 27 March 2014

UK energy regulator Ofgem has asked the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to rule on whether the Big Six energy suppliers' rises in prices and profits were due to lack of competition. This follows a report by the regulator which found "possible tacit co-ordination" on the size and timing of price rises, but did not accuse the major energy firms of colluding over prices....

UK opens second largest offshore wind farm in world 13 August 2013

On August 7 the second largest offshore wind farm in the world, costing £1.3 billion and generating enough clean electricity to power over half a million homes, was officially opened by the Energy and Business Minister Michael Fallon. Greater Gabbard, off the Suffolk coast, has 140 turbines, and will double in size once the Galloper extension is completed in 2017....

UK utility says green energy policies will add £240 to household energy bills 16 July 2013

On July 15, one of the country’s biggest energy suppliers,RWE npower, said that Government investment in infrastructure and energy efficiency alone will cause annual energy bills to rise by 19% to £1,487 by 2020. The coalition believes that its energy policies, which involve billions of pounds of investment in low-carbon transmission networks and power plants, will cut bills....
