Essar Oil UK has announced plans to build a £360 million carbon capture plant at its Stanlow refinery in Ellesmere Port, North West England. The company said the plan was in line with its ambition to become a leading low carbon refinery by 2030....
The UK subsidiary of India-based refining giant Essar has been fined £1.65m following an explosion at its Stanlow refinery in Ellesmere Port. Liverpool Crown Court heard that while there were no injuries, the blast from the early hours of 14 November 2013 caused internal structures to collapse with damage totalling more than £20m....
Essar Oil has pleaded guilty at Chester Crown Court to breaches of its environmental permits during two separate incidents at its Stanlow refinery in Cheshire in 2012. The first incident saw several tonnes of oil sprayed into the air in a plume of steam after a storage tank exploded, and the second involved the leakage of a large volume of oil into the Manchester Ship Canal....
India's Essar Group plans to sell the Stanlow refinery in Britain, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. Essar is seeking to raise $500-$600 million for the plant in the northwest of England, two of the sources said. However other refineries in the UK, including Murco's Milford Haven plant and earlier the Petroplus facility at Coryton, failed to find buyers....
Essar Energy said it would mothball a small crude unit and start a $100 million cost improvement programme at UK's second-biggest oil refinery at Stanlow in Cheshire, which supplies about 15% of UK's transport fuel requirements. The small CD3 crude unit at Stanlow will shut by October, which should help reduce fuel oil and naphtha production and improve margins....
Essar Oil UK has signed a three-year deal with Barclays Bank plc covering the supply of crude oil to its Stanlow oil refinery. The refinery chief executive, Volker Schultz, said this was one of a number of initiatives to make Stanlow more profitable in a challenging market....
The Coryton refinery in Essex is to close, according to administrators PwC. Its Swiss owner, Petroplus, filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. There are likely to be a "substantial" number of redundancies among the 500 workforce, PwC said, while around 350 contractors will learn their fate within the next few days....
India-based Essar Energy has posted a full year loss for the year to December 31, but said the outlook for its operations had significantly improved. The company, which acquired the Stanlow oil refinery from Shell last year, made a pre-tax loss of £587m after Indian authorities reversed a decision over sales tax deferment....
